Completing the trilogy in 2002, First One To Die Loses III was released to widespread critical acclaim. Cleverly juxtaposing the raw brutality of the fighting with scenes of almost balletic beauty, Part III uses the power of black and white film in a manner last seen in Raging Bull. Reg Noyes explains, "As a film maker and an artist, I feel my job is to challenge people's perceptions- to keep people thinking. I never want the audience to feel like they can second-guess a Reg Noyes film. So it was important for me that this film moved in a different direction to what we had done before." Despite the dramatic change in direction, the audience kept faith with the series, helping it to challenge, unsucessfully, Schindler's List as the highest grossing black and white film of all time.
